Cool Yes it's a needed feature

This is a feature that I have been wishing for since Chrome came out. What we are talking about here is analogous to the Firefox "Session Manager" addon.

Use case: Doing research about (x). Eventually I get multiple windows and tabs open. I'm done with my research for now, but I will want to come back to it later. What do I do? Either make a bunch of bookmarks, or leave the windows and tabs open. Both solutions are weak at best: (1) bookmarks are things you want to keep "forever" or for a long long time. I'm going to be done with my research in a week. (2) Keeping all the tabs/windows open consumes a lot of system resources which I'm not going to be using again for a day or two.

This is a necessary feature for a next-gen browser like Chrome. Plus it sounds like an easy addition. Could a dev update us on if/when this is planned to be implemented?

    Thanks,
    Steve

I got Chrome a little while ago just to try it out. It seems nice, it's a little bit tidier and smarter than other browsers, and it's absolutely faster, so I would like to use it, but this session manager feature is absolutely vital to me. I'll be going right back to FireFox until this arrives. My feedback is:

    1) After installing Chrome, my first step was to search for Chrome Plugins which brought me to this site. I was very disappointed to find only about 6 or so plugins. I'm not sure if that's all there are... or if I'm not navigating the site properly, but either way it's a big complaint from me and it's a really poor welcome to a new browser.

    2) The Session Manager (that FireFox has) is incredible and I can't imagine anyone choosing to function without it after using it for all this time. It should need no justification from any of the users here, to me, the only thing more revolutionary to internet browsing than the session manager, was Google itself.

    ---edit----

    3) Also, when you set a file to always open when you click the hyperlink to a download, does it actually open from the location or does it in fact download it whether I want to or not? Edit: I have checked this and it does download files that I tell it to open. So if I click on an .exe or something on a website and I want it to open in to memory or a temp folder, it is actually downloading in to a downloads folder even though I don't want it to.

    4) How do I set the browser so that it asks my permission for every cookie? That was my preferred setting in FireFox and I couldn't find how to do it with Chrome. With FireFox, it asks me on every site and if it's a reputable one I accept, otherwise I deny it. Once you use the browser for a while with that setting, all the sites you use regularly never ask you again so it's not a nuisance and it only asks you when you visit a new site. Surely that is the safest approach? The only options I could see in Chrome were to just accept all cookies no matter what or from where which seems quite unsafe to me, or to just deny them all. Am I getting that wrong?

    5) Oh I have a new complaint and this is a big one for me. When I do Control-F to find words on the page, it isn't finding them in this post as I'm editing it. Again, this is really vital to me.

    6) Downloads as they appear on your little download bar across the bottom of the screen - I wish you could right click them to get options like "Open containing folder" etc.. rather than having to click the little arrow next to them.

    7) Now that I use the browser a bit, I have to say I prefer the separate downloads window that FireFox has. I wasn't sure at first because the advantage of having it at the bottom of the screen in Chrome is that there aren't two separate windows. But really, I much prefer it because I'm finding that the download bar keeps popping up and hiding itself as I'm browsing which is quite distracting and annoying. Also, you made so much effort to get rid of the little taskbar thing at the bottom of browsers and now you go and add a massive bar with these downloads. I would just prefer to have it in a separate downloads window like FireFox and then it's out of the way when I'm browsing and I know where it is when I want it. I may change my mind should I spend more time with Chrome but I really doubt.

Ok last one from me for now. Although I like the tidier toolbar that you have, it is harder to read than in FireFox. The fonts of all my bookmarks are slightly less bold, and all the buttons are slightly smaller. On this PC that is great, but on my huge HTPC with a very high resolution, I suspect it would just be too small. I use my HTPC with a trackpad and miniaturising things isn't really something I would appreciate on that PC specifically. Perhaps you could have two states... Oh well.

    Default [New Ext] SessionSaver

The pre-beta version of Google Chrome 3.0.197.11 (dev channel) now supports session saving via an extension called Session Saver:

It would be useful if some people test it to see if I've missed any bugs.

One thing I would like to see, is the ability to by default not accept cookies, but to be able allow cookies for the current site to by hitting a button or selecting a menu item. This feature should also give the choice of saving the cookies or allowing them only for the session.
