Chrome needs a firefox style download manager that can keep downloading even when the browser is closed and resume downloads where they left off.
I'm surprised this feature was not included by default.

I agree with you, but the only difference is the fact that its not a separate window, but you can actually pause and continue a download at will by right clicking the downloading file, or using the little dropdown options by the edge of the downloading file. The fact that it opens in the same window can be annoying and should be fixed because it takes up some space on the screen with gets kinda annoying when u downloading a large file ( bcos it stays for much longer). I think a separate window should be made available, but optional.
