Welcome to ChromeSpot
create a folder and place it on the left hand side of the bookmark bar
I did this, and unless I am doing it wrong, it does not create a Firefox-like bookmarks sidebar.
The folder I created is called "side" (for test purposes) and is the leftmost object on the bookmarks toolbar. I put some bookmarks in it via the bookmark manager.
What I do wrong?
I don't know what is a Firefox-like bookmarks sidebar;
I created a new folder and put it into the left of the Bookmarks Bar; I added some bookmarks to it and click on the new folder
Thanks, sulasno very nice trick using the folder.

I'm just wondering why a google mod isn't supposed to use google.
This workaround has some major flaws:
i) another "click" is required, since
ii) the bar is not displayed permanently
iii) the bar hides information from the website
iv) scrolling through hundreds of bookmarks drives you nuts
In conclusion, this workaround ain't a workaround. I thus recommend using firefox.
I found this forum doing a google search with terms "chrome bookmarks bar on side" because Chromes lack of displayed bookmarks bar (like Firefox) is the ONLY reason why I haven't switched over to using Chrome.
The "workaround" is not the same. It makes using Chrome about the same as being on the freeway on a unicycle when everyone else has a real car.
The displayed bookmarks and/or history bar on the side (especially in the advent of widescreen as was pointed out earlier) puts YOU in command of the browser and puts the internet at your fingertips.
You can do something obscene and ungodly with your "workaround". Until you fix this, I won't be using Chrome.
And by the way, I've noticed a definite lack of quality in Google Maps lately. Not going to use them anymore either. Your 15-yr old copy of MapsInfo program running on a 486 in a broom closet ain't cutting it anymore. FYI.
Going back to mapquest.
