    Default Flash blocker for Chrome

I am new to Chrome. I have Chrome ver. 2.0.172.33 on WindowsXP Pro. I have downloaded FlashBlock (flashblock.crx) from http://www.chromeplugins.org/google/...tion-7510.html, but I can't figure out how to install it. Windows says it does not recognize the extension .crx. Somewhere I read that WinZip will open it, but I have WinZip Pro ver. 12.1, and it will not open it. I asked this question at another forum and was told to "Make sure you are on the dev version and double click it". Can someone here tell me what the "dev version" is and where I can find it? Thank you very much.

you got your answer on that forum, i'll repeat - make sure you are on the dev version. 2.0.172.33 is a stable version, get dev and extensions will work.
    download here: http://www.google.com/chrome/eula.html?extra=devchannel

My mistake. I thought "dev version" in the earlier answer referred to the FlashBlock file. Anyway, I now have Chrome ver. 3.0.193.1, and I have successfully installed the flash blocker. However, in order to do so, I had to add --enable_extensions to the Chrome shortcut on my Desktop.

For other Windows users who wish to add a Flash blocker to Chrome and who may be only as computer savvy as I am, here's how I was finally able to do it. (There are undoubtedly faster/better ways, but after several false starts, this worked for me.)

    1. Make sure you have the "dev version" of Chrome available at http://www.google.com/chrome/eula.html?extra=devchannel
    2. Once installed, close Chrome, right click on the Chrome icon on the Desktop, choose Properties, and at Target add --enable-extensions, so that it reads something like "C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --enable-extensions (Notice that --enable-extensions is outside the quotation marks.)
    3. Restart Chrome, go to http://www.chromeplugins.org/google/...tion-7510.html where click on FlashBlock. That downloads the file "flashblock.crx". Doubleclick on it. Close Chrome, restart Chrome, delete the file flashblock.crx.
