I don't think there is a Status-bar for GChrome as of now, besides the one that pops up in the left hand corner when you switch pages.

    1. Why did you make two threads on this?

    2. You will need to wait for add-ons to be made. Give it more time.

Default google chrome status bar MISSING!

Hi google and chromespot. I love chrome's simplicity, elegance, and search effectiveness. However, not having a status bar, as part of the browser is sort of a big deal for me, personally. I was disappointed to see that feature wasn't available standardly in my options and settings section. This should be standard, for security purposes. This is how I monitor what's going on, and when I need an ssl secured login or transaction, I mostly check the status bar to see if the padlock is there; so I know I havent been spoofed to somebody else's server.

Secondly, I also am not seeing another feature I will need to browse. I may have just not looked hard enough, or maybe its not available, which again would be sad, because if chrome were more standardly feature rich or atleast kept up with firefox on important features, I would probably use it. The other feature I'm not seeing is how to adjust what default landing page opening up a new tab brings me to. This one I feel I may be overlooking, because surely you have not left THAT out! = D

Otherwise great product but I just can't use it without these features. I'm not sure if you care what the power user wants, as I'm sure most users just double click the pretty colors and go check their email, and watch your youtube videos, but I need it to be secure and get alot of work done.

    Thanks.

There is no status bar. However, there is a "status bubble" as the Chromium Development Team refers to it. It is a fixed-width bubble that pops up in the the lower left-hand corner of the window.

You can check to see if there is an SSL connection by simply looking at the protocol (if the URL begins with https:// instead of http://, then it is a secure connection) You do not need a status bar for that.

Currently, you cannot modify the new tab page unless you download the source code and modify it yourself.

They will NOT make an Official status bar for Google Chrome. They might have one within the future extensions. You should wait instead of complaining to us that your chrome is not perfect for you. You should send feedbacks on how you dislike chrome, give it some future options, don't complain here, most people here are 10 year olds.

It's probably completely pointless to mention this here, but if this is what Google expects users to do to verify they're using SSL, they've made a horribly poor UI decision and should probably be sent back to college or something. Having a user look for an "s" buried in a URL is not only error prone, but it requires the user to actually know what "https" means; that's simply ridiculous. I can guarantee most of the users I know barely even know what SSL means. This is *precisely* why user interfaces use metaphors like locks to convery meaning.

Of course my issue with the lack of a statusbar has little to do with the lock and far more to do with the fact that it floats over text in an uneven fashion. Because there is no devoted placement for the status "bubble" as it's called, if you try to highlight a link at the bottom left of a page of a full screen or maximized browser, you'll find that the status bubble will be hidden from view because it's being pushed down (Google is trying to keep it away from your pointer). This can also affect other pages that make use of the bottom left of the page for information (facebook comes to mind)- the bubble intrudes on the actual page space rather than its own space. This matters not only for highlighting links, but because it appears whenever Chrome is loading a resource in the page which can be occuring continually and at any time. In fact, for modem users, this can takeup space in the page for a long time, blocking people from accessing information on the page. Finally, because the bubble appears inside page space, it could easily be emulated with JS and could be used maliciously to trick unsuspecting users, which is a serious security concern. In the end, a statusbar should have its own segmented place in the UI-- the 30 extra pixels are not worth it.
