I just posted a reply in a thread and noticed that beneath my name, there was an email icon that if moused-over showed my email address. I thought this odd because I specifically remember setting the checkmark on "hide my email address from public'...
So, I went into my Profile Settings and clicked the 'Account Related Settings' link. Other than the odd fact that the yellow Email: text-entry box is filled with simply 'RenegadeX' rather than my actual email address, it confirmed that I did indeed have the 'hide email' configured to hide.
So being curious as to what would happen if I unchecked the setting (ie: 'make it visible'), I entered my password at the bottom so that I could submit my changes, and then met with a message saying that my NEW passwords didn't match. "Huh?"....
.. I soon figured out that it was ALSO (in addition to entering it at the bottom) wanting me to enter my password in the 'verify your password' text box, which is in the 'choose password' section.
So I did this, checked a thread in which I'd posted, and confirmed that my email address (as it should be now) was displayed. I then repeated the ordeal with the email address and multiple password fields in order to tick the 'hide email' option -- after which I refreshed another thread in which I'd posted -- and still, my email was displayed.
Hmm...
I then said to myself "what if I log out?", thinking that the change might only take when upon sign-out. Well, it SEEMED like I was on to something as now that I was confirmed logged out, I refreshed a thread and .. there was (correctly) no email button next to my username. HOWEVER, I then logged in, refreshed the thread page, and ... it's (incorrectly) back.
Final observation: I then visited the 'Account Related Settings' page and noticed that, drumroll... the Email: text-entry field was WHITE (no longer yellow) and finally, for the first time, contained my email address! HOWEVER, the page then finished loading and as it did so, the box turned yellow and my username suddenly replaced the email address.
Very strange. Forum bugs (related to the hacker problem perhaps?) or Google Chrome problem?
