    Default New feature ?

Do you think that this feature is good for general users?

"You have chosen to open certain files types automatically after download.
You can clear these settings so that downloaded files don't open automatically."

    Cool

Well, I do think it is useful, but its current implementation is far to weak and I think, a little to vague. Although, this like many features, I am not sure the handling code should be in Chrome itself as opposed to a user-script handler of sorts.

I read once that no one user uses more than about 3% of the features in MS word, but, no two users use the same 3%. Consider how much lighter the MS Word code base would be if ALL the features were not built into the base code. If you consider that issue, along with FireFox style add-on support, I think an extreme bare bones level of support in the browser code itself, but with the appropriate hooks for user-script support is a far better answer than enhancing actual browsers code is. So far that appears to be the kind of direction the Chrome developers are taking and one I agree with whole heartily.

That said, a little more sophisticated solution than a reset button or a globally set download location would be much appreciated. There are for example certain file types that I always want to open and never want to save, like .Torrent files to name one. To that end, a user defined "Save As" function would be very useful. While opening an EXE directly is clearly a risky proposition, there are times when I would like to have the option to do so without having to save it first or permanently changing the default behavior for that type of file.
