Just saw the video of Google’s new Chrome OS and what its about… seems dodgy to me considering how carelessly the Chrome browser has been built (security-wise)… I heard it only catches around 65% of all threats caught by IE 8! Lots of work required on the safety front...?
I think it is quite the opposite. Chrome has been built with a high degree of security in its design. It is of one the most secure browsers rated at http://www.browserscope.org/ (look at the Security tab).

Yes I have read the latest reports from NSS labs which report the same. There is no point sacrificing security for the sake of speed, as any malicious software need only attack your machine once for it to take over. That's why I trust IE 8.

Also, Chrome has not sacrificed security for speed. Chrome is secure by design and implementation, including process sandbox and tab isolation. Check out:
