    Question Trouble Deleting Bookmarks Toolbar

    Hey everyone, basically I want the bookmarks toolbar under the address bar to be deleted because often people are around my computer and I do not want them seeing some of the sites I have bookmarked. Now I have been trying control+b as well as selecting the wrench and toggling with always show bookmarks bar. However, all this does is to dislodge the bar a bit further down from the address bar and then re-attach it. The bar does not disappear, why would chrome even do that. I am very annoyed, can anyone assist please?

    Thanks.

    Welcome to ChromeSpot

    What is the version of Chrome that you are running?
    Go to the Wrench and select About Google Chrome

    What is the version of Operating System that you are running?

    Ctrl + B toggles the bookmark bar

    I suspect a corrupted preferences file

    Hi sulasno, my Chrome version is 3.0.195.38.

    My computer OS version is Vista Home Premium 64 bit, SP1.

    How do I fix a possible corrupt preferences file issue?

    you may not like the solution;

    Windows troubleshooting: Create a new browser user profile

    If your browser user profile is corrupted, you can create a new user profile to replace the broken one:

    1. Exit Google Chrome completely.

    2. Locate the User Data folder by going to the Start menu > Run. Enter one of the following directories in the text field, then press OK.
    • Windows XP: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\
    • Windows Vista: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\

    3. Rename folder as 'Backup User Data.'

    You should now be able to open Google Chrome normally. A new 'User Data' folder is automatically created as you start using the browser. If you want to transfer your old browser history and bookmarks into your new user profile, copy the relevant files from the 'Backup User Data' folder to your new 'User Data' folder.

    Hey sulasno, tried what you said it worked then right after didnt.

    I then experimented with uninstalling and reinstalling still a no go.

    So I guess its just yet another buy google needs to fix along with the one that suddenly causes your theme to change to the default one day.

    Deepak im not really understanding you where exactly can I find the bookmarks toolbar folder on my pc?

    bookmarks are stored in a file; named "bookmarks" without any file extension

    after uninstalling, use a registry cleaner to remove all traces of Chrome;

    there is an updated version of stable Chrome

    I know that after I renamed the folder and google created a new user data folder I copied that file to the new folder and the same thing happened with the toolbar.

    Additionally, I am running the latest version of chrome which is 4.0.249.78 unknown 36714.

    I used both CCleaner and tune up utilities after uninstalling and further deleted folders which were created by chrome in progam files etc.

    Nothing worked.

    To illustrate in the first pic the bar dislodges when "always show bookmarks bar" is unchecked

    The second pic below is when it is checked to show.

    Is there a way for the bar to completely disappear, why would google think anyone would want their bookmarks to show in a bar when they first launch the browser?
