I have the same issue : Chrome always start an "inline" adobe reader, even after I removed /opt/Adobe/Reader folder...
Apparently, there is no "uninstaller" for adobe reader....

Type aboutlugins in the address bar.
Scroll down to Chrome PDF Viewer and select disable
not sure why this chat is inserting emoticon when I type a colon so I will write the word -
type about(colon)plugins.....
