Default I might just have to say "Goodbye Chrome"

Okay, I've been using Chrome since 15 minutes after it's release and it has the minimalism I want in a browser... problem is, it's just not stable. As much as I hate to admit it, this is one Google product that truly is "beta".

I should say this; on my laptop Chrome flies. I haven't had a single issue yet... but on my desktop.... ugh... my desktop.

I built the machine myself and I've never had a problem with it. It has an AMD Sempron 2800+ processor, not the newest, but it gets the job done. I also have 2 gigs of RAM.

The problem? I've never before had to reboot my machine because of a program freezing everything, not since the days of Windows ME. However, I've rebooted 12 times in the past 5 days, all due to Chrome freezing on me. Before installing Chrome my uptime was somewhere around 4 months.

On video sites, such as YouTube, Chrome chokes. I haven't watched a single video yet all the way through that didn't pause at some point for 30+ seconds. I rarely have more than 3 tabs open at a time...

And speaking of tabs... I have yet to see Chrome save my browser from crashing by killing a tabs process. Nope, when a tab does something Chrome doesn't like, everything goes down.

Anyway, tonight was the last straw... After trying to reply to a thread on here, Chrome froze... I let it sit for 12 minutes and it never unfroze. After rebooting, I came back, only to have Chrome freeze again... and with that, I'm back to FireFox.

It sucks. I really wanted to use Chrome. But I guess for now it's FireFox for the desktop and Chrome for the laptop. However, I will keep trying Chrome on the desktop as new updates are released. It's just no longer my full-time browser.

Anyone else have similar issues with similar hardware?

    AMD Sempron 2800+ (Palermo)
    Windows XP Pro
    2 gigs of RAM
    NVIDIA GeForce4 MX
ZenSix Hosting: Shared hosting starting at $25/year. Chrome convert on day one.

Unfortunate, I hope you'll give it another chance in the future.

Chrome does crash a lot more than FF for me, but it's tolerable (never had to restart my laptop). However, I agree that I've never had one tab crash...it's either all or nothing. That's why right now I use both FF and Chrome, depending on what task I am doing. I'm sorry it's giving you such a hard time.

I'm very sorry to hear that, and it's too bad Chrome isn't working out well for your desktop. Just keep up hope that Google will eventually make Chrome more stable and usable for your computer.

I have similar specs to your laptop and my Chrome is always stable unless I'm watching a video. My specs are actually worse than yours.

    Intel Celeron 2.5 GHz
    1GB of RAM
    XP Pro
    Inter-grated GFX

I really wish I could figure out what the problem is... I've changed so many settings, trying to tweak it just right, but it's no use. It's seriously like my PC is allergic to Chrome. I don't have this problem with any other program... and I use CS3 and Vegas Video almost daily.

    Wow,

it really does seem wierd, chrome runs totally different on some different types of chip etc and im not sure why. Personally i would put it down to the speed of your processor but tbh it shouldnt be an issue. Chrome has not locked up once on me yet (by itself) i have personally forced it to crash but even that took some doing. I really do hope you will consider coming back over to the "shiny side" and not make yourself a stranger to chromespot.

I have also packed it in till the next release thanks mainly to repeated crashes caused by Flash applications running up front or in the background on websites.

Does the same thing happen with the latest Chromium build?
