Default Chrome ignores image map and area attributes - voids access to website

I've just downloaded the latest Chrome browser (version (14.0.835.202) as part of browser series testing on a new, private, family history site. Unfortunately, I ran into a really serious problem the first time I addressed the site.

Chrome did not respond to any mouse activity, process any javascript, activate any links, or produce any tooltips that were associated with image areas on the home (or any other) page on the site. In effect, that made the entire site not accessible or usable with the Chrome browser.

This came as a great surprise, because it ran without any problems on all of the other popular browsers, and the code was validated by W3C.

Perhaps more surprising was that the html of the home page only amounted to about 25 lines of xhtml code, had no javascript, and used only one image with a usemap attribute.

After unsuccessfully searching the internet for any previous Chrome reports and the Google Chrome Known Issues involving inoperable links associated with html <map> and <area> tags, I submitted the problem to Google support. However the 30,000+ outstanding issues that the Chromium team is currently facing most likely indicates I shouldn't expect a fix anytime soon.

Hopefully, then, someone in this forum can help with an explanation or work around.

    Thanks to all...Bob Lennon
