    Default Advertising On ChromeSpot.Com

    Good Day All,

As some of you may be aware there have been a few posts now where people have been discussing advertising upon these forums. Our main rule as a community is to come here and enjoy yourself and hopefully contribute, which in my opinion is what every community should be about. Now in light of people debating about advertising on the forum a new rule shall be enforced.

Due to a few members joining and simply linking to their website and never returning to chromespot.com we have decided that members with over 20+ Posts shall be able to place a link in their signature, it shall be a standard formatted link with nothing special about it, it must simply be a link like this --> www.chromespot.com with a caption of your choice but no formatting at all. Moderators and staff are permitted after discussing with other staff members to include formatting in their links but only after a staff discussion

If you do wish to spam on the forum you can find yourself in the BanClub a very lonely boring place that really won't get your site nowhere apart from "black listed" for spamming. If you are truly passionate about your site and would like to advertise on ChromeSpot.Com please inform one of the moderators or even Rob so that we can sort you out in due course.

If anyone has a problem with these rules i would like to hear them. If anyone wishes to flame these rules take yourself elsewhere. I appologise for seeming a bit harsh but it's got to a point now where people no longer wish to support the development of some websites by allowing a few text links appear on their page, at the end of the day these ads are sometimes there to keep the site up. Now luckily we do not have any ad's posted on ChromeSpot.Com however if we feel the need to we shall put them up, whether members complain or not, at the end of the day we need a way to keep the site running.

    SUMMARY
Members - May post a link in their signature aqfter completing 20 USEFUL posts
Staff - May post a link with 20+ posts, they may include formatting after staff discussion

    Once again,
    My Appologies
    Thorny
    ChromeSpot.Com Moderator

This rule shall be active from the moment that this thread is posted and members shall be notified of any updates that they may need to do. This Rule May Be Changed At Any Time The Staff Wish To Do So

Hi, this thread was created while I was typing my thoughts on sig links in another thread - http://chromespot.com/showpost.php?p=6991&postcount=13
That thread was locked almost immediately so there was unfortunately no chance for feedback.

What you've posted above is fair.. but still, whether someone has 0 posts, 20 posts, or 2000 posts, I really don't see what place or benefit a link to something NON Chrome-related has here. I'm not interested in seeing it, and apparently I'm not alone. However, as I pointed out in that post I've just linked to, turning Sigs off completely means I will miss any Chrome-related links that might be of interest. And that's obviously not an ideal solution.

Thorny, could you please re-state the following - as I'm not sure what you mean:

    - Instead of "regarding the site.." did you mean "provided the site.."?
    - if that's the case, I read that as "formatting may be included upon staff member discussion and at their discretion provided the site in question is NOT related to Google Chrome or its aim" -- which is somewhat confusing as you're mixing what you *may* be able to do with what you *can't* do.

Having re-read that about 3 or 4 times now, I think(hope!) what you were trying to say was that formatting my be included at staff member's discussion ONLY IF the site in question IS related to Google Chrome or its aim.

    Is that accurate?

    Renegade,

I fail to see why this discussion is your main priority, we want to allow people to show their sites to others, in return we expect them to link to us or at least spread the word about us.

I have no adjusted the overall statement aswell as a summary of the rules.

    Thorny

May i also mention that only about 6 members on these very forums link to anywhere else....

Actually there is only 2 to 4 people out of 1000+ that seem irritated about my sig. So one in my shoes may think this is just a witch hunt so to speak. I know this isn't the case, but at the same time it seems to be only my sig. I am not going any further about my sig topic as this will veer the thread title to a new topic though.

I feel the rule and only rule is a good one to have. You don't have a choice to see it or not but you do have a choice to click it or not.

Personally, I didn't have a problem with the rules before these (if there were any), I don't have a problem with these new rules, and frankly, I don't give a (bleep) what anyone puts in their signature, so long as it's not offensive or inappropriate, and doesn't stand out. Charlie's signature (which is obviously the main point of discussion) does not stand out at all (the blue text hardly makes a difference in the grand scheme of things), is not huge or bulky, is not inappropriate or offensive, and is only a kind advertisement to his forum, which is in no way competition to ChromeSpot.

I think the argument against advertising signatures is exaggerated tremendously, and to put it simply, the only real argument that is currently being posed is "Well, it doesn't really contribute to Chrome and it's annoying for me to see all the time, so I don't want it." Honestly, that's not a strong argument, and it's something people just need to deal with. I just don't see why this has become such a big deal, that's all.

seems like a lot of hassle over ppls sig's.

whats next ppl complaining about avatars being to bright?

Personally, if someone wants a link in their sig i have no problem with it. As long as it isn't spammy, offensive or oversized it shouldn't matter.

The only exception to this is 1 time posters.
